Father's Day Fore!
It's tee time at 16 of Dallas-Fort Worth's best public golf courses

Waterfalls abound at Waterchase Golf Club.
With Father’s Day fast approaching, there’s no better excuse to load up the clubs, soak in some sunshine, and tee off at some of the finest public golf courses North Texas has to offer.
From championship-level layouts to scenic short courses, DFW has something for every kind of golfer, whether you're a scratch player or just here for the cart ride and cold drinks.
Here’s your guide to some of the most exciting and accessible golf experiences across DFW — you bring the swing, North Texas brings the scenery.
Cowboys Golf Club – Grapevine
America’s Team meets America’s pastime. This par-72 shrine to the Dallas Cowboys mixes championship golf with rich memorabilia and luxurious vibes. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely, especially for any die-hard fan with a decent backswing.
Fields Ranch – Frisco
Located at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, Fields Ranch is a golf lover’s paradise with not one but two 18-hole championship courses: Fields Ranch East, crafted by Gil Hanse, and Fields Ranch West, designed by Beau Welling. These courses are already set to host 26 major championships through 2034 — talk about bragging rights.
If a full 18 feels a bit ambitious, warm up at the Fields Ranch Practice Facility, then explore The Swing, a fun, lighted 10-hole, par-3 short course that’s perfect for casual play.
You’ll also find Frisco’s first Lounge by Topgolf, the PGA of America headquarters, and the high-tech PGA Coaching Center for custom club fittings and instruction. Don’t miss The Dance Floor, a two-acre putting green-meets-social hub where the vibe is just as important as your score.
Firewheel Golf Course – Garland
Composed of three distinct nines, the Bridges Course at Firewheel demands creativity and precision. Expect daring water carries, tight angles, and consistently excellent course conditions, all in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Heritage Ranch Golf & Country Club – McKinney
Quietly tucked away near Allen, Heritage Ranch is a scenic Arthur Hills design that brings elevation changes, pristine conditions, and a country-club feel to the public golfer. Hospitality here is top-notch, just like the course.
Indian Creek Golf Club – Carrollton
Two courses, one perfect golf escape. The Creek Course challenges elite players with its tough layout, while the Lake Course provides a scenic, more forgiving experience. Cap off your round at Arrow Grill, with views that rival the round itself.
Meadowbrook Golf Course – Fort Worth
A tried-and-true local favorite, Meadowbrook boasts rolling terrain and a loyal golf association of over 200 members. The par-71 regulation course is a consistent pick among Texas’s top public tracks.
Old American Golf Club – The Colony
Classic architecture meets Texas charm at this standout course by Tripp Davis and 1997 U.S. Open champion Justin Leonard. Set along Lake Lewisville, Old American plays with vintage strategy in mind, emphasizing shot placement and risk-reward decisions. Expect to use every club in your bag — and love every minute of it.
Pecan Valley – Fort Worth
With two 18-hole layouts split by the Trinity River, Pecan Valley offers variety for every player. The River course shines as one of the best municipal courses in Texas, while the Hills offers a slightly shorter — but still satisfying — challenge.
Sherrill Park – Richardson
A fan favorite for over 50 years, Sherrill Park is helmed by the legendary Ronny Glanton, a Texas Golf Hall of Famer. The course layout features a variety of hole lengths and challenges, with five sets of tees that make it friendly for beginners and pros alike.
Stevens Park Golf Course – Oak Cliff
Nicknamed "Little Augusta," Stevens Park blends scenic elevation changes with city views of downtown Dallas. A 2011 redesign brought it into the modern era, and GPS-enabled carts make the experience all the smoother.
Tangle Ridge Golf Club – Cedar Hill
One of DFW's most underrated gems, Tangle Ridge is full of elevation shifts, drivable greens, and a split-fairway finale that keeps players coming back for more. Nestled between Joe Pool Lake and Cedar Hill, this course delivers serious thrills.
Texas Star Golf Course – Euless
Nature lovers rejoice: Texas Star is one of the most secluded and scenic courses in the area. No streets, no backyards, just woodlands, waterfalls, and whisper-quiet fairways. A peaceful par-71, with reduced admission for Euless residents.
The Courses at Watters Creek – Plano
This Plano-Allen hybrid is a complete golf campus. The tree-lined Traditions Course rewards accuracy, while the short courses and extensive practice area make it perfect for sharpening your skills.
The Tribute Golf Club – The Colony
Scotland may be across the pond, but The Tribute brings the Old World to Texas. This links-style course pays homage to legendary holes from St. Andrews, Muirfield, and Royal Troon, with wind-swept fairways and rolling terrain. Just beware the four-putt.
Tierra Verde Golf Club – Arlington
Recognized as the first Audubon Signature Sanctuary municipal course in the world, Tierra Verde pairs eco-conscious design with a fun, challenging layout. The par-72 track has been voted best in DFW by Avid Golfer, and for good reason.
Waterchase Golf Club – Fort Worth
A dramatic name with equally bold play, Waterchase features a cascading waterfall, split fairways, and multiple tee boxes that cater to every skill level. A dynamic layout that promises both challenge and charm.
